WAKEY! (aka Cap’n Wakey) was abducted by aliens in 1998 whilst listening to his Aphex Twin album in a park.
Since then WAKEY! has grown up a space renegade, adopting a cowboy lifestyle on the outer fringes of the cosmos, often found working cash in hand on agricultural moons or selling fake plasma-rugs on Ceres.
WAKEY! combines retro drum machines, omnichord wonder and heavy guitar riffs and playful lapsteel nonsense to tell of his tales of space, occasionally crash landing into venues when requested.
WAKEY! first presented himself in late 2025 following a five month hiatus from music after recovering from a chop-saw accident that almost cost him his hand. “That’s why I got the lapsteel’ he said, before phasing into another dimension.
WAKEY! adopts the talents of Rhys D for occassional drums when recording at Shonkphonics HQ, at live shows he’s been known to adopt drummers on the night or perform without one, relying on machines and futuristic equipment he’s found along the way.
WAKEY! Dropped his first release in October 2025 with Space Cowboy, a three-track EP – this was followed up with Travellin’ on One Horse Power in November, a seven track release and Cap’n Wakey in March 2026 which features a nine minute cosmic trip detailing some of the events that’s taken place in his life.
