Shonk HQ is a 25 metre square rehearsal and recording space located in Newport.
The space can he hired for an hourly rate for band practice, we also offer competitive day rates.
We can support 8-channel recording into any DAW (simply bring laptop and plug in) we use Logic)) – There are microphones for the drumkit, amplifiers, instruments and vocals, with lots of scope for experimentation.
You can use cans or the in-house PA system!
The system supports bluetooth connection for any drummers looking to play along to their favourite music.
There is ample guitar backline, we also have a range of combos available for use.
Bass players needn’t get sad, our bass rig is plenty loud enough and can easily be DI’d for recording (or mic’ed)
We have a Mapex house kit with plenty of additional stands, there are some breakables available but drummers are welcome to bring their own.
Baffles are available to isolate audio, we also have two isolation rooms that can house amplifiers for recording purposes.
We can facilitate filming – the room has a greenscreen which can be put up and one along the floor, we keep a small supply of film and disco lights.
Facilities
We have tea and coffee making facilities in the space and there is a cafe open everyday serving breakfast style foods until around 3pm (cash only) there are toilets on side, a 30-second walk from our space.
There’s a big sofa for chilling or for friends sitting in, a big TV and a playstation 2. We have a Mac Mini running logic if you want to use that to record (bring a USB stick for your files) – No internet at the moment but this may be coming this year, maybe.
What’s to come?
We are constantly developing and improving the space for better recording and rehearsal facilities. In the coming months we will be looking to invite bands to come play a few songs with a view of streaming online and interviewing the bands. Keep checking the website for more news on this!
