Adonis Blues, The new album by Ta Malaka Matia

Adonis Blues is the latest release from Newport’s avant-garde duo Ta Malaka Matia. It’s a jaunty journey through the mind of Steven George Jones, built on a foundation of idiosyncratic drums laid down by dyspraxic-cripple Jacob Richards-Powell. This eight track release is a soothing venture through mind, body and soul, symbolically as a butterfly. Hold on to the idea of metamorphosis, nature and the tyranny of urban decay as you venture through this soundscape. Your hand will be held over rocky terrain and a guide will aid you through the less safe, remote pockets of sound seldom heard by westernised ears.

Adonis Blues is a shining example of building structures atop the chaos of mother-nature, improvised sessions lay the groundwork for SGJ to expand his ideas, lay infrastructure and explore. Like two friends discovering a new building material, the structure forms around them, imagination and reality working in tandem.

Like the TMM releases before it, Adonis Blues possesses an innocence not found in most modern, structured releases, there’s chaos, structure, happy accidents and knee-jerking changes in direction throughout as the duo explore the music alongside you.
